Projects
Studies → Create Project, or /create-project. A project needs a Project Name and takes an optional description. Creating one selects it and sends you straight to study creation.
Switch projects from the sidebar (Current Project → Change), or from /select-project.
The four ways to create a study
On Create New Study you pick a path:
| Path | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Use Wizard | You want AI to draft the study from a few prompts |
| Suggest from Site | You have a landing page URL and want a study derived from it |
| Import Existing | You have a Deutero XML export, or a research guide to upload |
| Enter Manually | You already know what you want to write |
All four share the same Study Details block:
- Study Name (required)
- Study Type — User Research, Customer Development, Political Polling, Sociology
- Language — 10 supported languages
- Max Responses (optional) — blank means unlimited
- Interview Modalities — text chat is always on; tick to also offer voice and/or video links
- Model Tier — Open Weights (1 credit / 5 questions), Standard (3, Solo+), Premium (10, Pro+)
- Credit Usage Estimator — sliders for participants and questions per interview, plus toggles for simulation (2×) and analysis (2×), showing estimated credits against your balance
Use Wizard
Pick a Study Type, then fill the fields for it and click Generate Study. The AI drafts a name, description, research question, objectives and target population, which appear in the manual form for editing. Finish with Create Study.
Fields by type:
- User Research — Business Context*, Research Need*, Target Users, Constraints
- Customer Development — Problem Hypothesis*, Target Customer Segment*, Solution Concept, Key Assumptions, Success Criteria
- Political Polling — Polling Question*, Population Segment, Geographic Scope, Data Quality Requirements
- Sociology — Research Question*, Population of Interest*, Context or Setting, Key Concepts, Scope and Boundaries
* required
Known issue (September 2026). Generation for User Research fails with "Failed to generate survey specification. Please try again." Customer Development, Sociology and Political Polling all work. For a User Research study, use Enter Manually for now, or create the study over the API and fill in the details yourself.
Suggest from Site
Paste a product or landing page URL and click Generate Study; the page is analyzed and a study proposed. There is also a signed-out version at /generate-study that anyone can try before creating an account.
Import Existing
Two independent inputs:
- Import from Deutero XML — a file previously produced by Export Study XML on the Details page.
- Upload Research Guide — a discussion guide (PDF, DOCX, TXT…). Upload stores it, then Populate fills the study fields from it. The same guide can later seed questions.
Enter Manually
Study Description, Research Question, Research Objectives, Target Population, Methodology. Only Study Name is enforced, so a study can be saved nearly empty — but AI generation, welcome-message drafting and question generation all read these fields, so fill them in.
Editing details later
Details in the sidebar (/survey-details) edits everything above except Study Type, which is fixed after creation, and adds:
- Session Recording — keep audio for voice and video interviews, and optionally video too (implies audio). Off by default. Participants see a recording notice, but your welcome and consent text must also say you record. Recordings appear on each interview's transcript page.
- Redirect URL — where participants go after finishing. Used with Prolific and similar panels.
- Export Study XML — downloads the whole configuration.
With MCP
create_project {"name": "Meal kit research"}
create_study {"project_id": "…", "name": "Meal-kit churn interviews",
"survey_type": "user_experience",
"research_question": "Why do subscribers cancel in the first 60 days?",
"target_population": "US customers who cancelled in the last 3 months",
"model_tier": "open_weights", "max_responses": 20}
update_study {"study_id": "…", "objectives": "…", "voice_enabled": true}
get_study {"study_id": "…"}
create_study makes a linear study with an empty question list. There is no MCP equivalent of the AI wizard — write the fields yourself, or let your agent draft them and pass them in.
